SALEM, Ore.-Governor Tina Kotek proclaimed May 5, 2024, as Murdered or Missing Indigenous Persons Awareness Day in Oregon.

The official observance helps to honor and remember the Indigenous people affected by violence and affirms the responsibility of all Oregonians to promote justice and awareness, according to social media post from the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.

Along with her official proclamation, Governor Kotek encouraged everyone across the state to wear red on May 5 in a sign of solidarity and support for Indigenous victims of violence.
